Below are excerpts from the review:
“The centerpiece of the Surface’s tuning is its sweet midrange: the slightly forward upper midrange pulls female vocals and string instruments into an intimate, front-row position. It offers an emotionally direct “bite” that emphasizes harmonic richness without crossing the line into shoutiness. For vocal-centric genres, this slight coloration provides a level of engagement that most neutral monitors miss.
Despite the midrange energy, the Surface feels very balanced: the dynamic driver delivers a tactile sub-bass rumble. The Surface has fast and authoritative bass, where the mid-bass is kept lean, preventing any bleed into the lower mid registers. This results in a tight low-end foundation that manages to be present and stay out of the way during complex passages.
High frequencies avoid the artificial “shimmer” of poorly tuned balanced armatures. The extension is genuine, providing air and while staying at the same time smooth. The Surface is very easy to listen to for extended periods of time.
The soundstage width is above average for a IEM in the price bracket, and can go surprisingly out of the head when a recording requires so, and imaging is coherent and precise.”
